Sphaerophoria fatarum

This is Sphaerophoria fatarum, a species of which only males can be identified with certainty.
This male had been collected and its genitalia were checked for identification.

Allthough a carefull examination is necessary, the spots on the abdomen of this species are rather characteristic.

Untill recently (1989), the species was lumped with S.abbreviata.

Parasyrphus punctulatus

This is a nice spring hoverfly. It can be found from april till june and is easy recognised by its typical spots on the abdomen, and a dark pterostigma.

It is also one of the first hooverflies I've caught (around may 2006).

Long gone or long overlooked? Chamaesyrphus lusitanicus (=Pelecocera lusitanica), Cheilosia frontalis, Eristalis alpina and Rhingia rostrata

Three new additions of Diptera to the Belgian fauna: Salticella fasciata, Tephritis divisa and Conops ceriaeformis
